Life Readiness Program 

*Open to All Youth Ages 16-24

  • *Teen Mental Health Training  -Teen Mental Health is a training program for teens that teaches them how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among friends and peers.  (This is a one day course that will take place in late July) 
  • Life Readiness Training- Youth are taught the Life Readiness Model through 8 seminars based on vocational, educational, and personal leadership skills. These events are held on Wednesday nights from 5pm-8pm. These workshops are presented by Seein' is Believin' 
  • Week 1-Our Greatest Fear and Starting Your First Business
  • Week 2-Skills Assessment Testing
  • Week 3- Renting Your First Apartment
  •  Week 4- Budgeting for Success 
  • Weeek 5-Conflict Resolution
  • Week 6-Overcoming Negative Talk
  • Week 7-The Perfect Interview 
  • Week 8- Anxiety of  Adulthood 
  • *Mentorship Programming- Youth attend group mentoring talkback sessions for 30 mins per week. Group Mentorship takes place on Wednesday nights after the Life Readiness Training)
  • Saturday Program Events- Interns work directly with the Black Youth and Young Adult Program to design summer enrichment activities in the parks. Programs run from the end of June through September. Interns receive a  design summer programming in the parks that involve youth open talkback sessions, scavenger hunts, and obstacle courses that challenge the youth’s mind body and soul. Programs run from the end of June through September

* Indicates program is offered both virtually and in person. However, interns must attend all events in person.



INTERNSHIP  DETAILS

 

Stipend Purpose. Seein is Believin, a fiscally sponsored organization of the Center for Community Stewardship, awards stipends to youth participants who complete all their summer programming training. This award is delivered in the form of a one-time stipend after satisfactory completion of the program. 

 

2022 Criteria. For the 2022 summer program, the stipend award is $2,000 and a laptop. This will be awarded to 10 of youth participants who attend the program in person. Youth may apply for the internship by filling out the form below. This stipend is not payment for work or services. The money provided through this stipend may or may not be required to be reported on income taxes depending on the student’s total annual income and pursuant to IRS rules on how the money is spent.

 

To be eligibility for this stipend, the student must complete the following:


Internship Requirements

  • Must be a resident of Madison, Wisconsin to be eligible for the paid internship. 
  • Complete Application- Youth ages 16-24  are asked to complete the application below and click that box that indicates "Internship Applicant"
  • Attend a Group Interview -Internship applicants will participate in a group interview and skills assessment activity.
  • Attend 2 Hours of Orientation- Youth selected for the paid internship must attend a 2 hour orientation and onboarding.
  • Plan, Attend and Participate in all Life Readiness Program Saturday Events
  •  Attend and Participate in all Life Readiness Program Wednesday Events

Youth are allowed to miss one event due to extenuating circumstances and written consent must be provided by the program director, Prenicia Clifton.  Should the recipient withdraw from participation of the summer programming, this recipient will no longer be eligible for the stipend or free laptop.

 

No work or services in connection to stipend award. No work or services performed for Seein is Believin, its fiscal sponsor Center for Community Stewardship, or any other entity is anticipated or required by the stipend recipient themselves or on their behalf.

 

 


Life Readiness Program Application

I understand that I must complete all Life Readiness Programs and events in order to receive payment. I understand that if I am under the age of 18, I must have parental consent to participate in this program. I understand that the stipend is for completing the training program. I understand in order to receive the stipend and the laptop I must complete all program requirements. I understand that I will be responsible for all taxes associated with this stipend.
